Toys in the Boudoir

Review: I’m Touched by Shunga’s New Erotic & Kissable Massage Oils

Physiologically, our bodies were on break, but our minds were not. Our reunion sex was tender, hot and intense on so many levels, both Parts 1 and 2. If you can imagine not being in the arms of your lover for almost three months, you can probably understand. No amount of texting, Skyping or phone calls can ever make up for that.

It was about 11 p.m. We lay warm and naked in our bodies and in our thoughts on the bed of our well-appointed hotel room less than 10 feet away from the window that separated us from one of the windiest and most biting cold nights of the season.

“Let me try something on you,” I said to Parrot.

I promised that I would keep my sex toy testing to a minimum for the long Valentine’s weekend, but I couldn’t resist. I knew we would both enjoy what I had in mind.

Shunga had sent me three of its brand-new massage oils to review. I drizzled a bit of the first bottle I intentionally chose because I knew it would lead into the meandering storytelling mood we were in.

He picked up on the sweet aroma as I stroked the softness of his inner forearm and into the strong palm of his hand.

“Guess what this is,” I said.

“Is that chocolate?” he asked.

“Nope,” I said.

It was Shunga’s Organcia Almond Sweetness Kissable Massage Oil. When I uncorked the bottle when I got it the week before, I identified it immediately. It was the scent of butter almond cookie dough that I had made with my mother, sister, and now my niece since I was a young girl. It was part of our Christmas tradition of our marathon Christmas cookie making, usually during the early evenings that were as dark and cold as this one. I swore I could smell the sweetness of Maraschino cherries that we placed on top of every single cookie before we slid them into the oven, too. In the three years Parrot and I have been together, it was neat to tell him a story of my life that I hadn’t yet shared. And here I was making a new warm memory of that scent with him as I worked my hands and fingers into the up and down his arm. The sweetened oils wouldn’t let me quit.

I opened up another bottle, drizzled a few drops of oil on his other arm, and said, “Now this is chocolate.”

This wasn’t the chocolate of an impulsive candy bar fix at a cashier counter of a gas station or grocery store. This had the smooth softness and sweetness of a Swiss milk chocolate bon bon yet wasn’t overly feminine or masculine. It was decidedly intoxicating as it was named on the label of the bottle, Organcia Kissable Chocolate Kissable Massage Oil.

I kissed him on his oiled forearm and said, “See, it’s kissable.”

He kissed my sweetened lips. His smile brightened.

“Nice!” he said.

By the time my hands and fingers worked their way up to his shoulder, I changed up things again with the Serenity Monoi Erotic Massage Oil. I lightly poured it down the middle of his chest, working my hands and fingers up, down and around toward his sides.

The Monoi really had him guessing, and to be honest, I couldn’t remember how it was concocted. My head was in a bit of a scramble indulging in the feel of his chest, hips and well-toned back side as the soundtrack of part of our night. It was a studio performance of David Grisman and Stephane Grappelli that went back to 1979 or so. It was from an album that never made its way to CD or digital until Parrot preserved it for this weekend. (If you’re not a serious string jazz fan, this is the kind of brilliance these guys were all about — The album we listened to was much mellower.) The music was the perfect complement to Monoi’s warm notes of ylang ylang.

No wonder why I didn’t pick up on that. I hadn’t smelled ylang ylang for about 35 years. I totally get why Indonesian newlyweds spread this flower’s petals on their marriage beds. It’s what sensual aromatherapy is all about!

The night had gotten late and soon both of us were slowly caressing each other’s oiled bodies, not to ecstasy, but to a sublime and much mellower place we had drifted off to before we finally fell asleep in each other’s arms.

I don’t mean to suggest that Shunga’s new massage oils will make your sex life a sleeper. Far from it. That time we spent with the oils was truly special and the Almond Sweetness came back for a rather rousing encore the following night.

Here’s some more stuff I’d like you to know about Shunga’s Organcia Almond Sweetness Kissable Massage Oil, Organcia Kissable Chocolate Kissable Massage Oil and Serenity Monoi Erotic Massage Oil…

All three massage oils are fantastic! It doesn’t take much oil for either of them to stay on the skin for a very long period of time without feeling overly slippery, drippy or messy. They have some amazing staying power and made massaging each other way beyond what we enjoy so much about sensate focusing. These oils make giving massages just as exceptional as receiving them.

The oils worked their way into the skin and kept our skin exceptionally moist until we showered the next morning. The cold-pressed oils Shunga uses have some amazing skin care benefits, although not officially confirmed by the FDA.

Organcia Almond Sweetness and Intoxicating Chocolate Kissable Massage Oils

Sunflower oil: Used topically, sunflower seed oil acts as an emollient that moisturizes deep within the skin to help ease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also helps protect skin from damaging indoor and outdoor elements.

Rapeseed (canola) oil: Rapeseed oil is loaded with antioxidants and contains provitamin A (beta carotene), which promotes cell division and protects skin cells against the harmful UV effects. Rapeseed oil is also loaded with vitamin E, which also neutralizes free radicals that can age and damage skin.

Grape seed oil: The purported health benefits of grape seed oil goes back as far as ancient Greece when philosophers revered it for its plethora of health benefits, including support for skin and eye health. It’s slower to absorb than other most other types of oils used for massage and typically leaves behind a slightly glossy sheen.

Sesame oil: Rich in antioxidants and omega-6 & 9 essential fatty acids, using sesame oil topically encourages smooth, plump skin.

Avocado oil: Avocado oil feels great on the skin. It also absorbs deep into the skin and is loaded with vitamins A, E & D, lecithin, potassium, sterolins and antioxidants. It’s a great anti-aging agent!

The oils and ingredients used in the Organcia oils are certified organic.

Serenity Monoi Erotic Massage Oil

The Serenity Monoi Erotic Massage Oil contains all of the oils that are in the Organcia Kissable Massage Oils but does not contain sunflower oil. However, it does include safflower oil, which is a great way to prevent moisture loss from skin. It’s a natural anti-inflammatory agent that increases cell membrane integrity, which protects skin from high levels of toxins and bacteria in the air. Even though it’s an oil, it’s effective in controlling acne. This massage oil is not certified organic, but some of the oils used in it are. This is good, quality stuff!

All of the fragrances are extremely high quality. They smell very authentic without overpowering the room or bodies. All of the oils we used were pleasant and gender-neutral. Aside from “aroma” listed in the ingredients, I don’t know what is in their blends. I assume that Shunga uses a lot of essential oils in the fragrances they use. Nothing assaulted my nose that smelled artificial or chemical-like. The aromas stayed on our bodies in very pleasant subtle ways until we hit the shower.

One thing to be aware of when using oils like these for massage is that they have a relatively short life after they’ve been opened. Cold-pressed food-based can go rancid in as little as 45 days. They’ll still work but they won’t smell as pretty. If you don’t think you’ll go through an entire bottle that quickly, use a couple of capfuls in the bath or rub it into your skin after a shower. It’s an excellent moisturizer. I think it works much better than all of the super-deep moisturizing lotions that my nurse practitioner recommended for my extremely dry and fragile skin, even with the cold-to-the bone weather we’ve been having and all the time I spend working in my humidity-deficient apartment.

AGWDM products I endorseThe Shunga Organcia Almond Sweetness and Intoxicating Chocolate Kissable Massage Oils and the Serenity Monoi Erotic Massage Oil are the best massage oils I have ever used, and I’ve used a lot of them. I’m hooked! They’re definitely Products I Endorse!
