Toys in the Boudoir

Sorry, Mr. Hitachi. I’m with Mr. Shibari Now.

AGWDM shibari halo

I really try to resist the urge to make comparisons between similar products when I do reviews. I believe that each product deserves a clean slate, but it’s hard not to make comparisons between the Shibari Halo and one of my all-time favorite toys I like to refer to as Mr. Hitachi.

Unfortunately, I lost Mr. Hitachi in a move a several years ago. I never got around to replacing it for a number of reasons, but it’s been high on my priority list lately. (The story about how I lost it is in another post. It’s horrifyingly funny.)

Not anymore.

At first, I was skeptical about the Shibari Halo when Shibari offered to send it to me to review. I’ve heard so many people and reviewers say that there’s no replacement for the “Original”. I had my doubt if the Halo being a cordless, rechargeable vibe would have enough power to compete with a plug-and-play vibrator?

It does. Does it ever!

As soon as I got the Halo, I took it out of the box to test out the 10 speeds. Actually, there are two speeds, low and high, and eight vibration patterns. Let’s put it this way, I didn’t make it through all of them.

So I took out the Halo the following evening. The same thing happened, this time even more so. I was afraid everyone in my building would hear me. Thank goodness I had a dildo vibrator on my nightstand. I really needed to get fucked, and fucked really well.

I finally pulled my self-restraint together on the third night to do a thorough analysis of the Halo. If you like to start off at a really low speed, find backup. “Low” is the equivalent to “High” on some vibrators I’ve had.

The eight patterns and pulsations are really amazing: 1. Three strong pulses followed by a 2.5 second steady strong buzz. 2. Feels like a motor revving up for 3 seconds followed by 2 second steady strong buzz. 3. A consistent pulse that feels like you’re being drilled. 4. Three quick staccato pulses followed by a long “note”. 5. One and a half seconds of pulsing followed by 1.5 seconds of a strong, steady buzz. 6. Twenty-five strong pulses followed by two seconds of a strong buzz. 7. Four long pulses followed by 6.5 seconds of revving. 8. A combination of steady pulses, intermittent pulses, and revving. The Halo does not mercilessly tease with lapses in pattern changes.

I really like the look of the Halo. I mean really, really like. The head and the top half of the wand is made of FDA-approved body-safe silicone. It washed up like a gem with liquid anti-bacterial soap and water. There’s a curvy pattern that intersects with the plastic handle. It’s much more modern and stylish looking than my former favorite Magic guy.

I received the black silicone Halo, a big plus for guys who want a supercharged wand vibrator for themselves. It also comes in pink and purple.

The buttons are easy to use – the on/off switch is at the bottom, the speed/vibration button is at the top. I got quite a long use time out of it before I had to charge it, about three hours. The charging pin/USB cord comes with a plug-in charging adaptor. The buttons stay lit while it’s charging and (…)

The neck of the Halo bends, but it takes a bit of force. It’s not a necessity for me, but I do like the ease of use with the long handle that comes with this style of vibrator. There are also three attachments (http://www.shibariwands.com/products/shibariHALO_attachments.html) that I did not receive with the Halo that was sent free of charge to review in consideration for my review. I definitely will get these.

The only fault I could find with the Halo is that it’s a bit loud. (The product information sheet says it’s <60 db.) Actually, it’s not much of a fault considering its powerful motor. If I had to choose between power and noise … Who says there’ a choice?

Cordless, rechargeable, FDA-approved body-safe silicone, two speeds, eight excellent vibration patterns … You’ll never guess how much the Shibari Halo goes for.

$75?

No. Lower.

$65?

Try $37, and I’ve seen the Halo being sold on Amazon for as low as $31.99.
