TMI Tuesday: Sex Talk & Sex Ed

I’m only vaguely familiar with TMI Tuesday. All I know about it is that a few bloggers I follow participate in it and I occasionally read their confessional posts. But when I that this week’s TMI Tuesday topic was inspired by #AudltSexEdMonth, I just had to jump in.

June is Adult Sex Ed Month (Twitter: #AdultSexEdMonth). The movement was started by blogger @GoodDirtyWoman on Twitter. Please read more here:

This week’s TMI Tuesday questions were inspired by Sex-Ed writer Jon Pressick (@SexInWords) and his #dailysexdiscussion that happens on twitter.

1. Have you ever investigated having an open relationship? Have you tried to have an open relationship?

Not on my own accord. It’s not my thing. I really enjoy being connected with my lover in a way that I am with no one else. However, I did meet a man once who was a kinkster and enjoyed playing with others at BDSM parties. I really tried to keep an open mind to it but couldn’t. The funny thing was how he lamented that he could never find the right woman to be exclusive with. Gee. I wonder why.

2. Do you have any sexual phobias? What have you done to manage or overcome them?

I’ve never had any sexual phobias, but I grew up in a family that is really uptight and prudish about sex. I mean really uptight and prudish like a man always picks up a woman on a date and a woman never calls a man on the phone. After my divorce, they thought it was scandalous that I would go on vacation with a man, let alone spend the night with a man. It wasn’t until then in my early 30’s to finally admit that they are full of shit.

3. What is the best new sexual activity you have tried in 2013?

I haven’t tried anything new yet this year, but a post, Weekend Sex Position – Sexy Rocking Chair UPDATE, from Confessions From the Porn Store has given me a great idea the next time I see my lover when he comes into town.

4. Have you ever called into a sex advice radio/television show or written to a sex advice columnist? Was it helpful?

Nope, but I do a lot of reading. I also have a Ms. Q & A sex and relationship advice column that I run on my site on Mondays. I always enjoy the questions I get, and I love the comments and other suggestions that readers offer.

5. Would you use the services of a sex therapist? Why or why not?

Probably not. I really don’t see the reason. I’m very happy with my sex life. It’s the best ever.

6. Should sex therapists be allowed to engage in actual sexual activities with clients? Why or why not?

I think it would be ethically inappropriate, especially if they have an advanced degree in social work, psychology or psychiatry. I think objectivity is the most helpful part in dispensing good advice.

(From the TMI Tuesday blog: I highly recommend watching the movie “The Sessions” based on a true story of how a sex therapist helped a disabled man live a full, rich life that included sex. Movie trailer:

Bonus: Have you read any adult sex ed books lately? What do you recommend?

I haven’t read any lately, but there a ton of great articles on almost every topic that I collected during #AdultSexEdMonth that are on the Adult Sex Ed Stories by Topic page of my site. There’s also a list of sex bloggers and sex websites in the post June is Adult Sex Ed Month (#AdultSexEdMonth).
